How to Interpret Research Studies
In psychology and neuroscience, there are basically two types of research studies that you’ll come across. It’s important to understand the differences between the two because each type leads to very different conclusions.
Meet Your Brain
Take a quick tour through the brain and nervous system. I say quick, because we’ll only be scratching the surface of everything there is to know about the anatomy of the nervous system, but it will give you what you need to know about how neurons speak to each other, how the brain is divided, and how the nervous system is organized. This is an important course because it is the basis for understanding all brain function.

Neuroplasticity
The brain develops through experience, starting in the womb, and continues throughout our lifetime into old age. You'll learn what it takes to change the structure and function of our brain, how stress affects neuroplasticity, whether learnings are transferable to other skills, and how our genes influence learning.

Focus and Decision-Making
Learn about the prefrontal cortex and its role in cognition and thinking, how the brain chooses where we place our attention, how multi-tasking is just fast task switching and carries a heavy cost, and how decision-making, thinking and emotion are related..

Willpower and Motivation
We all have goals. We have professional goals, where we want to be professionally in a year or two or ten from now. We have goals about getting healthy, losing weight if we need to, exercising more. We have family goals, monetary goals, social goals. And yet, we often have difficulty staying with the program. Our motivation fails. How can we structure goals so that we increase our chances of achieving them?

Make Progress Every Day
Habits are sometimes considered a dirty word, but they are absolutely the best way to make progress every day and achieve more in life and work. A habit is a more or less fixed way of thinking, acting, or feeling that we’ve acquired through repetition. And part of being a powerful coach or helping professional is to help your clients create successful habits, whether it's around their health, their relationships, or their business, that will have them make progress every day.

Creativity and Problem-solving
Insight is the sudden solution to a long-vexing problem, a sudden recognition of a new idea, or a sudden understanding of a complex situation and it is available to everyone. In this masterclass, we learn about the five stages of insight, and the conditions for insight to appear.

The Science of Flow
The psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi coined the term ‘flow’ in 1975 and it has been widely researched since then. Csikszentmihalyi studied flow in a wide variety of occupations, from artists and chess players to business leaders, and from ordinary people to the elite. His research and the research of many others have found that flow is a rewarding experience, it provides the means for people to live up to their potential, and is a predictor of higher performance - or “being in the zone” - in a wide variety of domains from work to leisure to creative pursuits. Flow drives individuals to creativity and outstanding achievement and is the key to living a meaningful life.

The New Neuroscience of Emotion
In the 1980’s, as a PhD student, Dr. Lisa Feldman Barrett tried to replicate a number of classic emotion studies, and failed. In all, she failed to replicate 8 studies. When this number of studies can’t be replicated, there’s something wrong with the theory. This led her to study emotion, which she has been doing for the past 30 years. This course presents the new theory of constructed emotion that emerged from this research and will change everything that you thought you knew about emotion and emotional intelligence.

The Neuroscience of Stress
In this course, we look at how the brain responds to different kinds of stress and how our beliefs contribute to perpetuating the stress response. We also look at cardiac coherence and how it can propel us into a more positive emotional state and prolong our life.

Creating Resilience
When we're resilient, we're able to bounce back and even thrive following adverse events. Research has shown that resilience is ordinary, not extraordinary. It involves behaviours, thoughts and actions that can be learned and developed in anyone.

Neuroscience of Relationships
Our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are influenced by the actual, imagined, or implied presence of others. In this course, we look at how our neurobiology is involved in perceiving, thinking about, and behaving towards others.
